Long Island Pedalers for a Cure is an organization formed by a group of cousins who each, at some point in their lives, lost a loved on to cancer.
Pedalers for a Cure originated from a group of cycleists who formed a team to participate in the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge. The Pan-Massachusetts Challenge is a 192 mile bicycle ride held to raise money for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund.
The Team was named Pattie's Pedalers in memory of Pattie Capuano who lost her brave battle to Lymphoma.
As Pattie's Pedalers grew the logistics and cost of moving our entire team along the ride route became overwhelming. The team, however, wanted to continue to raise money for cancer research.
We also wanted to find a away to reach out to people on Long Island. It only made sense to form a bicycle challenge closer to home. So Long Island Pedalers for a Cure was formed.
